According to sources, the current graphics processors, AMD's 55nm process is a shortage situation, and decided to put part of the TSMC 55nm chipset motherboard capacity to adjust to the production of 55nm graphics processor, in order to reduce the current situation. As the 55nm process GPU 40-50% gross margin, AMD can improve the present income, so AMD have this decision.
In the second half of 2009, AMD's Radeon HD 5000 series 40nm yield is too low as a result of severe shortage, so the graphics card manufacturers turn to order 55nm process Radeon HD 4000 series graphics processors. AMD, however, after the release of 40nm graphics processor on the 55nm graphics processor shipment conservative approach, resulting in both of them into a continuous shortage.
The source also pointed out that the AMD chipset shortage will persist to three quarters before or at the end of September will not solve.
